Shoes? Watches? Watches were one of my things when I was growing up - I used to abhor it when people were late. When I read that Malcolm X biography at the age of 11, I used to live by that line: “I have less patience with someone who doesn't wear a watch than with anyone else, for this type is not time-conscious. In all our deeds, the proper value and respect for time determines success or failure.”
I like watches, but I’m not into watches like I’m into shoes. I have a handful of watches that I like to wear, but they haven’t really seen the light of day during the pandemic.
Y’all know I’ve been pretty vocal about the new eBay ‘authentication’ service - where eBay supposedly checks the ‘legitimacy’ of certain pairs bought or sold on the site - in an attempt to weed out the fakes. I’ve posted a few times in the past about why I’m against it...in theory, it sounds like a good idea...but in real life, I think it’s a recipe for disaster. Come to find out - this ‘authenticity process’ is applicable to only two categories of items on eBays - sneakers and watches.
@whitemencantjumpman has sent me MULTIPLE links to the Omega watch forums in which sellers are complaining that eBay has ‘lost’ parts or even ‘misplaced’ WHOLE watches. We’re talking like $5k-$10k watches. Sure, eBay ‘covers’ the cost of the lost watch so neither buyer nor seller gets ‘scammed’...but what happens to the watch?
Again...IMO whatever CAN go wrong with this program WILL go wrong with this program.
As a collector, how would you feel if that item you’ve been searching for for 10+ years finally popped up on eBay. You copped with a quickness, the status read ‘sent to ebay’ and then they contacted you to tell you the pair ‘went missing’?
