Not sure if y’all caught it on my story the other day - but I bought my first NBA Top Shot pack on a lark and pulled a pretty rare ‘highlight’. When I looked it up, I thought it was gonna get me about $500...not bad as I had JUST bought the pack for $99. Throughout the day I got message after message about the ‘pull’. I still had really zero reference point on what it was or what it meant. But by the time I found out how to look it up, I noticed similar ‘highlights’ were listed for $100k+. WHAT? From a $99 ‘digital pack experience’ I somehow got lucky enough to ‘pull’ a ‘digital highlight’ worth $100k? Is this really life right now? 
 
So...if you thought this was like some new thing...#NBATopShot and these ‘digital highlights’ are NFTs. They made it easy for people to purchase (with USD as opposed to a cryptocurrency), but at the heart of it - they reside on a blockchain and have PROVABLE rarity.  
 
The whole while this is going through my head, I’m forgetting the most important lesson one can learn in the ‘collectibles’ space - something is only *worth* what someone else is willing to pay for it. Looking through the ‘sold’ listings, the highest price was around $15k...all the way down to $7k. Still, not bad for 9 minutes of waiting through an online queue. But a far cry from $100k. 
 
I’ve been debating selling mine...not totally sure what to list it at. I started at $75k, then $55k, then $35k, and now it’s at $20k. No bites. I dunno. I hear it might be a good idea to wait it out as once they’re out of Beta it could go worldwide...whatever.  
 
TBH...I don’t care about the vast majority of these highlights at all. Maybe if I was at the game or watched it live...I love watching the Warriors and all that, but I dunno...Just no connection to it.
