So today I turn 41 years old…I was trying to think of something personally birthday related and couldn’t remember much except the last time someone bought me a pair of shoes for my birthday.
When I turned 18 in 1998, I convinced my mom to buy me a pair of blue Air Max Plus’ that I saw in the east bay catalog. The catalog was opened on her desk to that page for weeks because I was so into them. She copped em, they arrived and after trying them on I asked her to return them. I felt bad that they cost as much as they did and didn’t feel right taking my moms money like that.
Returns weren’t as easy as they are now - she was pissed and vowed to never buy me another pair of shoes for my birthday again (and she didn’t).
I’ve owned probably close to 30 pairs of Air Max Plus’ over the years but I’ll always remember these as the birthday sneakers that never were.
Funny enough - I googled the catalog for this post and see that my good friend and homie @nickengvall is actually the one who posted it the catalog scan - And I noticed the 95’s and the TL’s are also included in the #airmaxpax set!
Happy birthday to me!
