Really random post but it’s been on my mind a bit lately.
Close to ten years ago, the wife and I went to Ethiopia…started in Addis Ababa and eventually made our way to the Simien Mountains. We spent about a week in Addis - and one of the things I found REALLY interesting - even though large parts of the city looked like a war zone - there were TONS of kids skateboarding all around the capital.
Call it ignorance or racism or stereotyping or simply just right place at the right time - but we spent close to 2 months traveling throughout Africa and this was the FIRST time I came across anyone skateboarding and it blew my mind.
For some reason this has been on my mind lately and I decided to google it - apparently it’s become a bit of a thing. Check out @ethiopiaskate if you can…I’d love to purchase one of those shirts but they’ve been sold out…
Anyone else come across anything like this throughout their travels?
