I once read an album review of The Love Movement by A Tribe Called Quest, where this dude was basically arguing that Beats, Rhymes and Life, (their prior album that wasn’t all that well-received), was just ahead of it’s time and that’s why no one liked it. Beats, Rhymes and Life was my first intro to ATCQ and I gotta say, it was underwhelming. Thank god I opened my mind and tried out some other ATCQ albums because that one was just not it and all the others were just fire. Listening to it today…it has a distinctively different vibe than the others, but it’s no longer terrible IMO. I can listen to it. Maybe it just had to grow on me.
It had me kinda thinking of the Jordan XV…when the Jordan XV came out it was just so goddam ugly…and more uncomfortable than anything I had put on my foot before or after. I owned a pair that literally sat in a box in my closet for more than 10 years before I just decided to sell them. When people asked me about them, I told them it felt like I was wearing suitcases on my feet. Just straight up bricks. For a long time they were just considered one of the worst signature J’s out there…But the older I get, the more I appreciate it. The countdown pack pair was dope, PSNY did a dope pair, Kubo did a dope pair, and there was a super fire DB pair…all of which eclipsed the original release IMO…
And now, after seeing those Billie Eilish XV’s (I mean wtf does Billie Eilish have to do with Jordan Brand is beyond me)…I’m convinced. It’s a dope shoe. And with the right textures, I’m a fan. How are y’all feelin’ this one? I’d opt for a non-montane color…maybe hints of black or white…but I still like these…they look hella plush…
