(4/11) The walk was fine - it was hot as hell and there were all kinds of characters (and items) on the street that I was trying to dodge…it was an easy walk, though. Funny thing is, when my mind is made up (that I’m going to face a fear head on), I can’t get there quick enough. That’s what this felt like.
I was wearing my Patta Air Max 1’s and opted to go hatless…kind of a rare thing for me. I guess I just didn’t want to be sweating like crazy when I arrived. Every building above 5 floors I spotted was thinking ‘is that it? Is that it? Is that it?’
I walked in confidently, made a beeline to the elevator and had a momentarily silly thought: ‘how would I know where they’re at?’
The rooftop bar was pretty big, but I recognized my tribe immediately…easily the most stylish in the vicinity. There were roughly 10 or 15 guys there already and my eyes darted from left to right until I noticed someone that I *had* actually met before: @acervan316 , who I didn’t expect to see there. But I walked right up, gave him a hug and it was on.
@instyleshoes1999 walked over, introduced me to everyone and within about 30 seconds, @pgknows had put a vodka soda in my hand and I was straight chillin’. No food all day, some alcohol, and I was all smiles.
Throughout the night I vacillated between feeling seen and feeling like a fly on the wall - especially when the heavy hitters arrived and I just kinda shrunk in the corner, observing. I had some solid conversations with the @retrotalkforum guys.
The Texas guys.
The East Coast guys.
And I had one hell of an inspiring convo with accomplished author @philwhitebooks . Too many to list, but I got a chance to meet a bunch of dudes I had only ever talked with via DM’s and it kinda blew my mind…
After a few drinks, I told my wife I was headed back to the Airbnb and she said ‘you better get an uber’.
As I laid down that first night…nothing in my stomach but some alcohol…I had two thoughts: 1. This is going to be dope and 2. I sure hope I don’t have a hangover in the morning.
