(8/11) As my bag started to lose some weight, I grabbed my OG Air Max 1 and looked at the line to meet Tinker. It was still a really long line, and Tinker looked tired. I’ve never really been one for autographs and I’ve never really been one to gush over anyone…I always aim to treat everyone like they’re people first, not celebrities. @dontchargeabdul , sitting on one of the couches, looked at me and said ‘are you going to get that autographed?’ I kinda shrugged and replied with ‘nah, man, I feel bad for Tinker there’s like 10 million people over there waiting on him’ and without missing a beat Abdul says to me ‘nah man f*ck that you gonna be 10 million and one get that sh*t signed!’ . Which, at least, put the thought in my mind that…’yeah…maybe I DO deserve it.’
It was hot, loud, and I was sweating. The room felt stuffy. I took another lap tryna hand out cards and then I stopped for a minute to tap in with @welcomemyfranz . We decided to head up to the rooftop for a bit to catch some fresh air and there were a few others up there - including @acervan316 , @dunksrnice , @esymai , and @sneakernerdofl - I had forgotten that I actually brought my Air Max 1 cards IN addition to the actual Air Max 1, and when I showed the group they said ‘get your ass down there and get your stuff autographed.’
It was dope, though, because…when I actually decided to do it…Tinker was pretty much standing all alone. The line was gone. I walked up…talked with him a minute: I told him about the shoe and how I found it in a storage unit in Hawaii. I showed him the cards we made paying tribute to that exact pair. I brought an extra card to give to him so I asked him if he wanted it…he said ‘sure’ and slid it right into his pocket. I showed him the pics I recreated of him/me holding the DOAF Air Max 1, to which he told me he still had a pair in his office…and then he offered to sign the card and the shoe for me. Andrew and Marni walked up right as he was finishing up with me and that was the end of our night with Tinker. At the buzzer.
