Who remembers the dark age of sneaker social media? Those semi-serious pics of Heinekens next to bottles of Heineken? Those Bred XI’s sitting on top of bread? Those Oreo IV’s being treated like real Oreo’s?
What is the WORST piece of sneaker-related content you’ve ever seen?
On the spot, without much thought, my mind ALWAYS goes to the foamposite duo - captain ketchup and DJ mustard…it’s just so bad. So so bad. Just soooo incredibly bad that I can’t shake it from my memory, nearly 10 years later. And I think it’s the worst one (to me) because it was right around (or slightly before) the time that this kind of stuff became relatively normal for social media. It was right before the term ‘clickbait’ was coined (at least in the sneaker world). So I don’t know if these guys had that in mind when they took this pic or or if they really thought they were doin it…and that will always bother me. The not knowing. If anyone knows them, please tag them in this post so we can get some answers…(even if I get the answers, this will still be the one).
A couple of the others in the slides above… I never saw before researching for this post. They got kinda dark with the mask and the knife and the gun. I looked for a bunch but most have been lost to the sands of time…sneaker content was on another level when dudes were quite very seriously posting pictures of their ‘Oreo’ Jordans next to Oreo cookies and pretending to dip them into milk…or…maybe they were *never* posting them very seriously, I just took it that way. I know @paypa_boy took it to another level when he started eating cereal out of his shoes…but IMO that was very calculated and it paid off (for him) immensely.
In either case, consider this a fair-warning post. For a number of reasons, I’m going to be posting some of this type of sarcastic content…dumb tiktoks and reels and short videos and smart-ass captions in an attempt at broadening the audience from less serious matters into some corny ones. Sorry not sorry.
Submit any more you’ve got (on the story) - I’d love to see them.
