A bunch of people sent me those trashed Balenciaga chucks and, to me, it just feels like it’s another super-transparent attempt by Balenciaga to physically commoditize the attention economy…like…if we weren’t paying attention and posting and sharing and reposting and sharing and telling everyone they’re garbage and they’re stupid and blah blah blah…would they be as big of a deal?
There was a similar pair of shoes a few years back…they were from this brand called ‘golden goose’ (pictured up top) and they retailed for around $500…funny thing is, I actually saw a few in real life. On feet and in shops. IMO, we are likely *never* going to see these Balenciaga 'shoes' in real life because all they’re really trying to do is sustain our attention on social media long enough for the next ridiculous pair of sneakers they’re gonna release. All they really want to be is a part of the conversation.
At one point, I kind of thought Balenciaga was a fashion company, but the more I see, the more I’m convinced they're more of a media company…if we stop talking about them, they lose. Kind of like MSCHF.
Maybe I’m just old and out of touch…I know that the homie @boyworldwide has written college papers on Balenciaga, but I’m just not interested in playing the game they’re obviously winning (as I sit here and jump right into it lol)…
