When I was a traveling (boy) man, I used to arrive in a new place and wonder…’why in the hell do we (Americans) call this place XYZ when it calls itself ZYX?’ Like…how are we going to call it Germany when they themselves call it ‘Deutschland?’ I understand that the reasoning behind that has its roots in history…but…why aren’t we past that yet? Why can’t we agree to call places what they call themselves?

When I was a high school teacher, I had a student briefly change his name in order to make it easier for teachers to pronounce. So…he basically gave me a ‘white’ name to make it easier for me. I stopped him. I said ‘look, man, you gotta tell me how you want me to pronounce your name. This is YOUR name. YOUR NAME. There is no need for you to change YOUR name to make things easier for me. I need to be able to pronounce your name. Please, bear with me, but I promise I will get it.’

And now the sneaker connection - I know it’s not that serious but I’ma say it anyway.

The homie @brodybaer sent me a link with an interview of the designer of the New Balance 2002R ‘Protection Pack’, and the dude goes into the fact that he never once called them the ‘Protection Pack’ and never had any intention of them being called that. He wanted them called the ‘Refined Future’ pack. But apparently @extrabutter started calling them the ‘Protection Pack’ and the name just stuck. What?

It’s funny how these things get away from people. Like…you want to define something one way, but everyone else wants to define it as another. At what point to we ‘pay respects’ to the owner/creator and let go of our own ideas?

Can we somehow implore @stockx and @goat to change the name on their end?
