Yeah, I know...I like to make 8/24 all about ME because that's the date I put my first sneaker cards out into the world...
I know they weren't the first, and it appears they're definitely not the last, and they weren't perfect, but I'm proud as hell that I was able to create them and put them out into the world. I think the idea helped inspire a few others who had similar ideas...I know I helped a few people get their things off the ground.
We have 4 card sets out there now. 824, DunkyDunks, Air Max Pax, and NBA One Day (which are releasing soon)...
When I first released these I was really nervous. I was amazed at the outpouring of support from A LOT of people...they took a while to sell out (exact a year), but then during my last big move I found a few more boxes that I put up on the site...I still sell a few now and then but I don't really push it.
I think...again...these cards represent me and my attempts at documenting the culture - one theme at a time. They are by no means comprehensive. Nor are they exhaustive. Nor are they perfect. They are simply my perspective told through a different lens. Funny how many people are creating cards now, huh?
I was once on a date with this girl back in like 1999 or something...and I told her that sometimes I felt like Kobe Bryant...meaning I felt entirely unapologetic about things...it didn't go over so well. But dude was a force and he impacted a whole generation of us.
In any case, I think what I (we - thank you to all who helped) created through this set was a unique tribute to the unshakeable cultural icon that was Kobe Bryant. And that's more or less what I set out to do.
Anyway, happy Kobe day!
