A lot of it seems to be about signaling.
I fall prey to it sometimes, too. I think I see things about a week before most other people (who talk about them) see them. So I either swoop in about a week early, or join a week late. I'm rarely (if ever) in on the bubble.
But I've been here so long...I observe:
The cycles.
The trends.
The rise and the fall.
I think I have a pretty good gauge on where stuff will end up a month or two from now...and that's because I wait...
So why is it that we see stuff like the above? What is even the point of going into the majority of these stores? How long can this last?
I know I've said this before and I'll say it again - this all reminds me of the 'junk wax' era of baseball cards - the market became SO oversaturated with product and people just trying to make money that everything evantually started looking the same.
I know most resell shops have a 'cool counter' where they put their 'most expensive pairs', but which pairs are you looking for when you walk into these places? The same pairs you'd buy from the online marketplaces? Or...I guess a better question is...what do you get from the local resale shop that you can't get online? @youngcorey
