So now that you know I’m hypocritical enough to sit here and type ‘corporations suck’ while also, simultaneously, supporting and marketing these same corporations for FREE (plus a bunch more - as I type this on my MacBook, push the ‘post’ button on my iPhone, sending data and pics through data services provided by AT&T or Verizon and Xfinity, in order for y’all to see it on my Instagram, owned by Meta), I also know that they’re pretty much a necessary evil.
It had me thinking…tho…about my place in all of it.
Like, I love sneakers. And for a long time, I thought I wanted to work with sneakers in some capacity. How, though?
If I could get hired by any one of these companies, what would I want to do for them? What would fulfill my interest in sneakers and my interest in the *actual* (not manufactured) community vs. what it is that actually makes companies money and what it is they’re trying to do.
And I kinda came to the realization…that I don’t know that I’d actually want to work for any of them. And that’s not because I’m anti, that’s more because I don’t think any of them necessarily value what it is that I value. Which isn’t just consumer goods, but the authenticity that comes with the people that are into it (ie: PEOPLE ARE DOPE). Working for one of the manufacturers might be fun. But those (corporations) that feel the need to monetize the hell out of every little thing…I dunno…that’s just not all the in line with what I value. The things I value…people, stories, truths, self-expression…and the preservation of (this) history…do they really fall in line with any of these companies? I dunno…
It made me wonder, though, if you could do anything for any of these corporations that we talk about on a day to day, what would YOU choose to do and why?
