Trust me - I know that I can never explain the 'sneaker history' of any of these shoes like the guys at @sneakerhistory or @weartesters can...the only thing I can do in this situation is take things from a more personal approach...meaning...what did these sneakers mean to me vs. what they meant to the world. So...I'm not expert on what they meant to the world, but I am an expert on what they meant to me.

The other day, I mentioned that I never really had a TV growing up, so a lot of the stuff I knew about NBA culture and came from 3 sources:
1. basketball cards
2. magazines or newspapers
3. my friends
So...this is kind of embarassing to admit...now...I never saw this movie so I could only go off what I heard from other kids...but I thought 'The Air Up There' was a movie about the life and times of @thedr34m ...I STILL haven't seen this movie, but having googled it (I literally just googled 'was the air up there about hakeem olajuwon') I have once again realized how little I understand of the world at large...smh. Is that more a function of what I heard, or the state of the world (at the time)?
There are a lot of things I can say about Olajuwon - I remember watching him in the finals the same day OJ went on the 'ride' with Al Cowlings...I remember when he changed his name from Akeem to Hakeem....I remember when he decided to go with Spalding (to provide cheap sneakers to people who didn't have $150 to spend on sneakers)...I know that almost anyone who played with him considered him the scariest center they ever played with (including @shaq )
Anyway...card number 8...live at link in bio...
