When these dropped back in 2018, I was confused. And now, after seeing prices for these pairs 4 years later, I'm still confused. I didn't get the point then and I don't get the point now. Would anyone care to enlighten me?
The scene I have in my head: in 2018, a group of Jordan Brand execs are sitting in a meeting. One side of the room is trying to convince the other side of the room that they could present figurative dogsh*t to sneakerheads and it doesn't matter - customers are gonna lap it up.
Leader of group one: 'We could even sell shoes that say 'not for resale' on 'em and they'll sell out instantly. And these idiots will even pay 5x retail for 'em!'
Leader of group two: 'Hmm, I like where your head is at. Let's give it a shot.'

Was it an attempt at irony?
Was it an attempt to be edgy?
Was it an attempt to show they're in on the joke?
Was it an attempt to 'Abbie Hoffman Steal This Book' their audience?
If it was an attempt at irony, don't you feel like it's nothing more than a middle finger to customers?
If it was an honest attempt at being edgy, wouldn't it have been smarter to release a whole helluva lot more pairs in order to actually discourage resale?
If it was an attempt to show they're in on the joke, again, don't you feel like it's nothing more than a middle finger to customers?
If it was a genuine attempt at overt subversion, again, wouldn't it have been smarter to release a whole helluva lot more pairs in order to actually discourage resale?

Or...chill. It ain't that deep, Savant, it's just a pair of shoes.
