A little while ago, a sneakerlebrity asked me (in some post comments) whether or not I had any business spending $2000+ on a pair of shoes and, after the initial shock of a grown man pocket-watching another, I started thinking…that’s a good question…what IS the most money I’ve ever dropped on a pair of shoes?
- I bought a pair of Kobe PE’s for like $1500. Well worth it. And I still own them.
- There is another random pair I spent like $1100 on…those HTM Flyknit Mercurials. It was a mistake born out of a quick reaction to a non-existent problem, but I’m glad I didn’t lose my shirt on that pair and was able to sell them for around what I bought them for.
- 2-3 pairs I spent like $400-500 on…including that pair of ACW Vomero’s, which I genuinely love. Most of the others are long gone.
- 5-10 I’ve spent around $300-400. Almost all of them were stupid purchases.
- And almost everything else in my collection is sub $200, with the vast majority of those being $30-50 pairs (I’m a thrift-a-holic).
Those are pretty much my biggest USD purchases…nothing all that crazy, considering I’ve been collecting for 20-ish years. Beer budget on champagne taste.
But then…those Ducks of a Feather Air Max 1’s puts me in a different category, I suppose. I purchased them all with ETH (not USD)…so…the prices look impossibly stupid high…but when you look at the price I bought ETH at (in like 2016), it looks like I walked away with a steal. I would never…NEVER…spend that kind of USD on a pair of shoes…unless I knew I could get that money back. Same with all of those RTFKT AF1’s. It all looks high, but if I could tell you how cheap I bought ETH for, I’m getting these for steal.
