I haven’t seen THIS many people fired up about anything sneaker-related since…well…like three days ago.
Unless you’ve been under a rock the past few days, this dude and his crew @sneakercon are getting all kinds of heat for charging $300 for a sneaker ‘mystery box’. So on Friday the 13th, ‘Chase’, took to social media to explain that with a mystery box - you win some and you lose some. And everyone seems to be losing their minds over it acting like he’s the devil.
I mean…selling anything to a 12 year old in person…it’s weird. No matter what it is. And that's because most appear to have more money than fiscal sense. I couldn’t imagine being 12 years old and dropping $300 on a ‘mystery box.’ I’m 42 years old and there is NO WAY IN HELL I’M DROPPING ANYTHING MORE THAN $10 on ANY MYSTERY BOX EVER WHATSOEVER. So…I dunno…instead of blaming it on dude…WHERE ARE THESE KIDS PARENTS?
IMO: this dude and this ‘game’ aren’t the problem, but they are a symptom of something greater. They aren’t responsible for where things are at, nor should they be THE scapegoat everyone is making them out to be. The only thing they’re really guilty of, IMO, is some shockingly terrible hair styles. Lest we forget - one of the most successful sneaker-selling entrepreneurs of all time - @twojskicks - built a sneaker empire off of (his undeniable hustle and) the ‘heat locker’, which he brought to Sneakercon on multiple occasions. The ‘heat locker’ is *ALSO* a form of gambling, of which millions of kids worldwide have likely played. I too once built a similar form of a ‘mystery box’ when I came up with the ‘wheel of steals’ on my @whatnot stream about 18 months ago. And it was fun and profitable until it wasn’t. It wasn’t that I set out to rip anyone off. It was that I wanted to bring some excitement to the space while also making sure it was worth my time. And when that first dude complained, @dadshoes207 , I decided it wasn’t worth it and I cut the stream and haven’t logged back into the app since. At the end of the day - these are businesses, and successful businesses often toe the line.
All that to say - instead of hating the player, y’all should start looking into the game.
