"It was the summer of 1984 and I had just finished my last year at the University of North Carolina. I was preparing for my rookie season with the Chicago Bulls and needed to earn some extra money. I came across a listing for an IKEA store in Chicago and decided to apply. To my surprise, I was offered a position as a sales associate.
At first, I was a bit hesitant about working in retail, but I quickly learned to love it. I enjoyed helping customers find the perfect pieces of furniture for their homes and I became an expert on the store's inventory. I was able to recommend furniture that fit customers' styles and budgets and it was really rewarding to see them happy with their purchases.
I also enjoyed working with my colleagues, we were able to maintain a positive attitude and a good team spirit among us. I was able to motivate them by my enthusiasm and it was a great learning experience for me.
During my time working at IKEA, I was able to learn about furniture, customer service and teamwork. Even though the schedule was sometimes demanding, I was able to balance my job and my training. I always kept an eye out for new and stylish designs to recommend to my teammates and friends.
Years later, after becoming a global superstar, I always remembered my time at IKEA and the opportunity they gave me. It was a great experience and I was happy to have been able to work with such a great team and help customers furnish their homes."
