(3/?) The search for a sneaker cobbler who could do unique 1 of 1’s turned out to be a lot more difficult than we initially thought. It was not fun at all. I shopped out the idea and the RFQ to 50+ different companies local and overseas and nobody wanted to discuss the idea…the idea being, of course, unique bespoke 1 of 1 bored ape sneakers that would correspond to each unique bored ape NFT. So each and every pair would be different.
We started with the idea of a common upper that would sit atop a (public) sole and figured any company could just just color components, add patches, or sublimate graphics on the upper…all pretty common practice.
We went from company to company and just when I was about to give up, I hit up an old friend and asked him what he thought. He told me he knew of a company in Philadelphia that would have ‘no problem’ getting our needs met. PHILLY? I LOVE PHILLY! I was shocked. I asked him for his contact name and number and he directed me to a sales guy at @garrixonstudio . This was in July of 2021.
