(5/?) In order to get to the point we were at - having already signed a sales proposal and paid the sample fee - we had already provided several design examples of what we would be happy with and the materials and processes that we were expecting…Again, a sock-runner type silhouette. A knit upper - possibly sublimated or embroidered to match each individual ape - that would sit atop a public sole that they already had in stock (Vibram ‘plump’).
Even though the design team had been briefed on our project, we brought our materials and ‘acceptable’ ideas to our first ‘design meeting’ about a week later. We attended a zoom meeting with an illustrator, a project manager, and the head designer, and and got the impression that this was all just gonna be a relatively simple process. The illustrator, a young guy, was amped when he found out this was Bored Ape adjacent…we were in a good place.
We sent over the design files they requested and were excited at the ease with which this whole thing was going…we’d have a sample done in no time!
So…I broke my cardinal rule: I started posting on IG about what was to come. A personal reminder for life: NEVER TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE GONNA DO BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY KNOW YOU CAN DO IT.
